HLTAID002 PROVIDE BASIC EMERGENCY LIFE SUPPORT
This basic first aid course will allow you to develop skills and knowledge and most importantly, confidence to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies while awaiting an ambulance. You will develop the skills to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, and promote recovery. It includes initial intervention techniques such as performing CPR, as well as the first aid treatment of other conditions, such as administering an auto-injector, or asthma medication, or assisting someone choking.
The course is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and applies to all workers or members of the community who may be required to provide CPR in the event of an emergency.
This first aid course is essential for everyday life events, allowing you to provide immediate and effective basic emergency life support to workers or others who have been injured or become ill at the workplace or at home.

Unit Being Delivered
On successful completion students will be awarded the following unit of competency:
- HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support
It is recommended that renewal for this course is undertaken every 3 years, with the additional requirement of updating the CPR component every 12 months. Locate the most current training package at training.gov.au
Entry requirements
Students must have the physical ability to provide resuscitation by kneeling on the floor and performing two (2) minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and infant manikin. Parental/guardian consent is required for students under the age of 18 years.
Course delivery
This course will be delivered in the workplace or at CPR for Life’s training facility.
Provider of training and assessment
This course is delivered and assessed on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909 by CPR for Life.
Delivery Modes
Online e-learning – 30-minutes face to face session with the addition of 2-3 hours approx of online self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the session.
Face to face – Blended/Refresher – 3 hours face to face training with the addition of 1 hour of self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course.
Assessment requirements and tasks
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.
Performance tasks and Practical scenarios:
- Perform CPR on an infant
- Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED)
- Breathing difficulties – Asthma
- Anaphylaxis (allergic reaction)
- Choking with airway obstruction
- Unconscious breathing casualty
- Bleeding and shock
Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
