This unit (previously known as HLTAID003 Provide first aid) describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a person suffering a sudden illness or injury. It covers the most common first aid injuries and illnesses and includes initial intervention in a casualty with a serious condition prior to professional medical help being available, such as performing CPR while awaiting an ambulance, as well as responding to other conditions such as asthma, anaphylaxis, burns, bleeding, sprains, and strains.
The Provide First Aid course is the minimum requirement for workplace first aid compliance. This unit is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines and applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
