This unit (previously known as HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation) describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a person (infant, child and adult) who is unresponsive and not breathing until the arrival of medical support and subsequent transfer to hospital.

This unit will train participants in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines and applies to people who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Melbourne, Ringwood and Cheltenham. This course is available onsite in the workplace.

This delivery mode allows you to complete all learning components of the course online via self-paced learning and must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face practical session. You will need access to a reliable computer, tablet, or phone with internet access in order to complete the e-learning modules.

During the face-to-face practical assessment session, you will be assessed in the required skills of the course. There is a small amount of time allocated to clarify information, however, overall you should arrive prepared to perform the skills.

This is an assessment ONLY course and no in-class training is provided. This delivery mode is most suited for those who have previously undertaken the same course, or a very similar course and are comfortable with online learning.

On successful completion students will be awarded the following unit of competency:

HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

It is recommended that renewal for this course is undertaken every 12 months.

This course requires Online Mandatory Learning to be completed before the face-to-face practical session. If the Online Mandatory Learning is not completed prior to the practical session date, students will not be permitted to attend will not receive certification.

Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet, or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course learning.

Students must have the physical ability to provide resuscitation by kneeling on the floor and performing two (2) minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and infant manikin.

Parental/guardian consent is required for anyone under the age of 18 years.

Assessment methods include a combination of written tests and practical activities. Simulated workplace environments will be created during assessment tasks to create as close to real-life situations as possible.

Performance tasks and Practical scenarios:

  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Perform CPR on an adult incl. the use of an AED

Theory assessment

An online theory assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions.

Course fees for individual public bookings are dependent on venue location and will be shown in the booking calendar. Payment is required upfront.

For onsite group bookings, fees and payment terms are based on agreement between the client and CPR for Life.
